McNamara Florist is recognized as one of the largest and most respected florists in the United States. From our founding in 1954 by Robert and Richard McNamara to our ever evolving multi-channel approach to business to serve today’s customers. Customers can choose how we can best serve them, in person at a retail store, online, on the telephone, or with one of our design consultants at your site. We continue to hold true to our original core values of quality products, great service and creative design ability at a fair price. Most important is our commitment to relationships with our customers that insure ongoing trust and satisfaction on every order. We take and fill those orders one at a time, dealing with your needs on a personal, individual level every day to be sure they meet our rigorous standards.
Today McNamara operates a total of 8 retail locations throughout Central Indiana and in Fort Wayne, a 76,000 square foot design center and warehouse, 2 acres of greenhouses and our own fresh flower wholesale and importing operation to serve our customers with the best selection and highest quality floral products available. In 2016 we moved back into the core of Indianapolis by investing in and renovating an abandoned industrial complex on the near east side of downtown. We are proud to be able to reinvest in and anchor revitalization in the heart of the community we call home.
Today the company is led by Toomie Farris, AAF, AIFD a 38 year veteran of McNamara Florist. We have over 120 dedicated employees to make sure we can take care of your floral, plant and decorating needs whatever the scale, from a single order to let someone know you are thinking of them to extravagant social galas and absolutely everything in between. We are here to help you celebrate life’s special occasions, make your home or office a more beautiful and enjoyable place, or to express emotions and support at times when words simply are not enough.

How can I make my flowers last longer?
Certain varieties of cut flowers last longer than others. Carnations, for example, can remain vibrant for long periods. Roses have a shorter vase life, but are prized for their special and delicate beauty. When buying flowers, be sure to ask your florist how long you should expect your arrangement to last. Whatever variety you choose, a little TLC will go a long way to keep your blooms looking fresh longer. Here are a few handy tips that can help add days to their beauty!
Essentials for your flowers
Keep them in a cool spot (65 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit; 18 to 22 degrees Celsius), away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, direct drafts from a ceiling fan, and the tops of televisions or radiators. (Appliances like televisions give off heat, causing flowers to dehydrate.)
When your flowers arrive in wet foam
Keep the floral foam soaked in water containing floral food provided by your florist. Be sure to follow the directions on the package.

Keep the vase filled with water containing floral food provided by your florist. Be sure to follow the directions on the package.
If the solution becomes cloudy, replace it entirely. If possible, recut the stems by removing one to two inches with a sharp knife.
Remove leaves that will be below the waterline. Leaves in water will promote bacterial growth that can harm the flowers.
When your flowers have woody stems and branches
Cut the stem with sharp pruning shears. Place in warm water containing fresh floral food to promote flower opening.
What is floral food and why use it?
Floral food is a combination of additives that help to nourish the flowers and discourage bacteria from growing in the water. It is one of the best—and easiest—ways to extend the life of your flowers. It is very important to follow the directions on the package correctly. Improperly mixed floral food can do more harm than good.

There are so many real needs and so many worthwhile opportunities to help. Every year we give hundreds of items valued at thousands of dollars to support the communities we serve but there are significantly more requests than we can possibly help with. There are simply limits to what we can do.
The following are some guidelines to help you understand our policies and corporate giving guidelines:
- We require 4-6 weeks MINIMUM lead time to review requests; our committee that reviews requests only meets a few times a year. There may be further delays due to the seasonality of our business. Sorry but we cannot “rush” and will not consider requests with shorter response times.
- ALL requests must be submitted on our “Donation Request” form in addition to any collateral support you may wish to include in your request. The Donation request form may be found on our website at ‘www.mcnamaraflorist.com’ or you can call us to request one at 317/579-7900. Form or standardized letters will not be considered.
- We primarily support local organizations and give preference to 501c3 organizations.
- We DO NOT give to second party fundraisers – if your group is holding a fundraiser for “United Way”. For example we generally cannot support those activities financially as we will support the benefiting organization directly.
- We try to practice rotational giving so if we cannot help you this year because of limited availability we may be able to in the future if you qualify.
- There are many events and organizations that duplicate services and overlap. For example we support numerous Breast Cancer events and if we have committed to some support benefiting that cause already we may be unable to help your specific event.
- Since we have so many requests we generally give smaller more frequent support such as auction items. Rather than give a very limited number of larger gifts to fewer organizations.
- We generally do not provide cash sponsorships.
- We offer discounts to qualified organizations that need event decorations but do not generally donate décor outright for events.
- Preference is given to established McNamara customers in the markets we serve.
Again – thank you for thinking of McNamara Florist. We are proud to be a locally owned company and do what we can to be a good community citizen. There are limits to what we can give and the number of requests we receive is truly overwhelming; we simply cannot help them all.

McNamara is proud to offer several ways to assist non-profit organizations and groups. In order to qualify for our fundraising opportunities, an organization must quality as a nonprofit in one of the following ways:
Educational – funds are used to directly support a school or school-related organization (i.e. band club, student or parent group associated with a school.)
Religious – funds are used to support nonprofit church activities or church-related organizations such as youth groups within the church.
Charitable – funds are used to support a charitable organization. Must be a 501c(3) organization.
Community – funds are used to support community-based activities devoted solely to charitable purposes and not for individual gain.

Plant Fundraisers - Ft. Wayne
McNamara Florist provides an opportunity for clubs and organizations to use blooming plants as a unique fundraiser for multiple seasons throughout the year. These plants are grown in our greenhouse in Ft. Wayne, IN. In the spring your organization can sell mixed outdoor hanging baskets; in the fall, hardy mum plants; and for the holiday season, poinsettias. A local delivery fee of $14.99 will be added to each order, for each address. (For deliveries outside our local delivery area and for special holidays, this fee will also include a relay fee.)
U.S. orders must be received before 1:00 p.m. in the recipient's time zone to assure same-day delivery. Orders received after that time will be delivered the following day.
We will do our best to accommodate deliveries at specific times of day, but we cannot guarantee it.
We only make funeral deliveries on Sundays. All other deliveries requested on Sunday will be delivered the following business day.
Delivery of orders to rural route addresses or cemeteries cannot be guaranteed.
We will be happy to accept your international orders if you call our shop directly. We are unable to accept international orders over the Internet.
Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
